When you drink and drive you are not only increasing your chances of getting into an accident, but, you can also get pulled over by the police and be charged with driving under the influence. Orland DUI penalties are quite serious and they can stick with you for many years. If you drink and drive in Florida, you should at least be aware of the consequences of your inappropriate behavior.
If you are below the age of 21 and caught driving a car with a blood alcohol level of .02 or higher it is possible that you will be charged with a DUI. Drivers who hit a .08 blood alcohol concentration will immediately be issued a citation for Driving Under the Influence. A driver who is caught drinking in his or her vehicle or appears to be intoxicated will likely be asked to submit to a test that will check the alcoholic content in his or her body. The law permits a police officer to administer the sobriety test at the site where the vehicle was stopped. Any driver that refuses to comply with the request by the officer can, among other things, have their driver’s license suspended for up to 1 year. Penalties for those testing out at .08 or more can include having your license suspended from 90 days to a year or possibly, permanent revocation of your license and driving privileges in the State.
Not every state has the same penalties but most are similar to those in Florida. Vehicles may be confiscated. You may be forced to install a device on your ignition that will keep you from starting your car if you are intoxicated. The device forces you to blow into a tube which registers your blood alcohol level and registers it in the device. If you exceed allowable levels, the car will not start.
Florida DUI laws take a somewhat different approach to dealing with those that are impaired while behind the wheel of a vehicle. Anyone arrested and convicted of a DUI will be required to take a course that teaches responsible driving and how alcohol can be a major impediment to safe driving. Other programs may be part of the penalty. The State believes in giving people a second and maybe third chance, but with each offense, the penalties become more severe. Habitual offenders face heavy fines, suspension or revocation of their license, seizure of their vehicle and jail time
